Marigot MP and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition Lennox Linton is questioning the DLP’s objective for running for office. According to Linton, since the DLP’s acceptance into office, in the year 2000, the administration has spent more and more of the people’s money on making citizens poorer and their close friends richer, destroying the quality of life for majority of citizens and rendering them more and more incapable of making their own money, being their own people, taking care of their families and living lives of dignity. The opposition Leader finds that the most disgraceful performance record of the Dominica Labour Party administration is, the more money it receives to develop the country and help the people, is the worse off the people become. Linton adds, Year after year, the UWP has called out the enduring obsession with the same old failed policies of exclusion, secrecy and petty political partisanship. Stressing the point that his party has asked for the involvement of the parliamentary opposition at stages in the budget preparation cycle where it can meaningfully contribute to the annual revenue and expenditure planning exercise. Linton spoke at the third meeting of the Fourth Session of the Ninth Parliament, in Dominica, on 26th July 2018. Marigot MP and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition Lennox Linton

The board of directors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved a US$9.3 million loan to the government of Anguilla, to implement a reform programme that aims to restore fiscal sustainability and enhance resilience against natural disasters.
Anguilla is highly vulnerable to natural disasters, and since 1995, the island has been affected by eight named hurricanes. Following the passage of Hurricane Irma in 2017, Anguilla suffered damage and losses that were estimated at approximately 97 percent of GDP. The country is also heavily reliant on tourism, and the effects from Hurricane Irma have led to the closure of hotels and restaurants, causing significant unemployment and income losses. The loan from CDB is the first of a series of three proposed policy-based loans, which will support Anguilla’s three-year reform programme to restore fiscal stability and build resilience, in order to promote and sustain economic recovery and growth. This first loan supports initial reforms under the government’s medium-term economic and fiscal plan. Portsmouth MP Ian Douglas claims the 2018/2019 Budget shows that Dominica is moving upstream7/30/2018 The DLP Government’s 2018/2019 national budget of almost 1 Billion dollars has raised hopes in some quarters and criticisms in other areas, as it relates the country’s current and future economic prospects, and especially in sharp contrast to the progress being made in some other sister islands in the Caribbean. Portsmouth MP Ian Douglas however is sharing some of the plans and strategies of his government, toward creating a climate resilient country. He says due to irregular weather systems and their potential intensity, serious adjustments had to be made in Dominica’s planning blueprint. He says these strategies have been implemented with the sole purpose of creating a climate resilient country. Meantime, Douglas is claiming that the current DLP Administration is the first Government to make serious development strides in Dominica. He is questioning the UWP approach to investment in an international airport and other financial projects. Douglas explained some of the mortgaging errors made by the UWP administration. He contends that a sinking fund mistake made by the UWP could have provided 300,000 million to help people in Dominica. MP for the Portsmouth Constituency Ian Douglas
