Our Currency Union is experiencing its largest shock, on record, with a projected decline of 16.2 per cent this year.  Our governments continue to grapple with significantly lower revenues while simultaneously expending considerable sums on COVID-19 response measures.

That’s according to Governor of the ECCB Mr. Timothy N J Antoine, who says evidently, this moment calls for shared sacrifice by all stakeholders as we navigate this difficult passage together.

“Looking ahead, we project the ECCU will grow by 5% next year, as Tourism, our dominant export, slowly recovers. The ECCB will implement a Programme of Action for Recovery, Resilience and transformation approved by the Monetary Council in October.”

Some of the Key actions include:

1.    Boosting food and nutrition security
2.    Increasing our use of renewable energy
3.    Accelerating digital transformation
4.    The ECCB will also unveil its new 5-year strategic plan.

A 7% drop in Global Emissions in 2020 due to behavior changes driven by covid-19, prompts UN Secretary-General António Guterres to ask leaders worldwide to declare a state of climate emergency in their countries until carbon neutrality is reached

Q95 news was notified December 29, 2020 at 8:01pm, by Official sources that, according to new data, global Co2 emissions dropped by around 7% in 2020, which is the biggest fall seen since World War II. It is reported that much of this can be attributed to the drastic changes in our behavior during the COVID-19 crisis.

But the question remains, “how can we reduce our emissions in a sustainable way?” Researchers believe that emission levels will rise again once restrictions put in place during the Covid-19 pandemic begin to be lifted.

As a result, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres is calling on all leaders worldwide to declare a state of climate emergency in their countries until carbon neutrality is reached. Achieving this goal would require significant planning & investment in sustainable energies.
