Asher James has been sentenced to 26 years in jail for the brutal murder of Kenny George in 2013.
The sentence was handed down by Justice Errol Thomas Friday. According to facts of the case, George died after he was chopped several times with a cutlass by James. James was found guilty of murder by a nine member jury on June 19, 2016. Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr. Nadia Wallace, diagnosed James as suffering from "substance use disorder" characterized by heavy marijuana use". However, Justice Errol Thomas described the murder of Kenny George as “horrendous, barbaric and brutal” stating that that murder should not be repeated in Dominica and the court makes no apologies for fixing a sentence to deter others. Court Reporter, Carlisle Jno Baptiste, has more details.
