Senior counsel, Anthony Astaphan, says the government will not be intimidated by the JCCCP’s ultimatums. The Joint Consultative Committee on the Construction Sector (JCCCS) has threatened legal action against the Government for what they say is the illegal award of the Roseau West Bridge contract to a Barbadian company. The Government in response to the JCCCS says the award of the contract is not illegal and following the passage of TS Erika, it became an emergency which has to be dealt with. Astaphan is defending these emergency actions taken saying that even though it took a few months before the west bridge was attended to, it does not negate the fact that it is still an emergency. Meanwhile, Chairman of the JCCCS, Anthony Leblanc, says they will go all the way to court with the matter.
He says their legal advice has indicated that they have a very strong case against the Government.
