Attorney Anthony Astaphan says PM Skerrit will take legal action re Linton, Christian & Fontaine1/31/2017 Opposition Leader Lennox Linton may soon be before the courts again for defamation, as Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has reportedly given the go-ahead to initiate legal proceedings for alleged defamation statements made against him. DLP Attorney Anthony Astaphan, says this follows allegations being made about Skerrit being involved in the selling of passports, the stealing of money, and being investigated by the US State Department.
Speaking on a local radio station, Astaphan said “The time has come where the Prime Minister has had enough. The Prime Minister today instructed that I must put together a legal team, and if necessary, bring lawyers from overseas, to review all the transcripts and statements made, including the audio you have given me which is clearly defamatory, and without further ado, take legal action … of course we must consult him on the contents, but he gave the green light to take any form of civil or criminal-like proceedings or complaints, that we may wish to advise on, and think it is in his best interest to protect his reputation, and that of the country.” Astaphan advised further that Gabriel Christian and Thomson Fontaine are not being left out from “the scope of any legal proceedings on the behalf of the Prime Minister. This hysteria, this smear campaign, led by Lennox Linton, Gabriel Christian, and Thomson Fontaine has to end” he said.
