The World Creole Music Festival was once again highlighted on this morning's broadcast of the Hot Seat with host Matt Peltier, as callers discussed the positives and negatives of the event during the previous few days with Cadance Music stalwart Leroy "Waddix" Charles. Mr. Peltier stated that while some people thought it was the best event we have presented in the past 24 years, others expressed disappointment and pointed to areas for improvement. Mr. Charles highlighted some of the positives he saw during the weekend, from an increase in ferry traffic to income that taxi drivers and other service providers earned and the quality of the local cuisine. He characterized the result as "a massive economic boom" for Dominica. Charles also expressed a few concerns regarding some areas he had observed. He suggested that the word ‘creole’ should be dropped from the name of the festival, as he saw a complete divergence between the word and the definition of Creole. Many however disagree that the word creole should be dropped for the name of the festival, but suggest instead that more creole music should be included in the line-up of the staged events. Charles claimed that for the most of its history, the festival was regarded as a cadence and zouk festival, which later spread to other creole regions of the world. That notion too was questioned by many others who knew of the inception of the idea for the festival. Cultural stalwart Leroy "Waddix" Charles
