On Saturday September 10, 2016, Dominica observed its eighth Caribbean Wellness Day, under the theme, 'Love That Body – Glow Through the Years' at the Bethsaida Seventh Day Adventist Church in Canefield. Chronic diseases which include Diabetes, High Blood Pressure or Hypertension, Cancers, Heart disease and Strokes have been identified as the leading causes of death, disability and loss of productive years of life throughout the Caribbean. The main contributing factors to these diseases include lack of or inadequate physical activity, unhealthy dietary habits, tobacco use and added to the list this year – Stress. Health Coordinator of the Eastern Caribbean SDA Conference & NCD Commission Chairperson Mrs. Priscilla Prevost, expressed her elation that the Seventh Day Adventist Church was this year’s host for the Caribbean Wellness Day service. She says it has been the church’s long held belief that health and wellness is the root of an individual’s lifestyle. Caribbean Wellness Day (CWD) is an initiative of the CARICOM Heads of Governments, evolving from a summit on Chronic Non Communicable Diseases-- CNCD, held in Trinidad in 2007.
