CARICOM Heads cite Health issues as a continuing serious problem for development in the CaribbeanÂ7/8/2016 CARICOM Chairman, Dominica's Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, says health related issues continue to be a serious problem for CARICOM Heads, as it affects the development of the region. Speaking in particular to Non-Communicable Diseases, Mr Skerrit says the level of NCDs in the region remains a disturbing factor. He says while some progress has been made, CARICOM Heads will be making tough decisions in terms of banning smoking in public places, banning the advertisement of potentially dangerous foods, and elevating taxes on foods that are high in sugar, salt and trans fat. However, he says it remains the personal responsibility of individuals to maintain healthy lifestyles. Concerned over the health of citizens, the Executive Committee of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) are currently discussing strategies and plans to improve the health of people in the Americas.
