The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Dominica, in association with Optical Services Ltd, hosts the 9th Annual UWI Open Campus Dominica ‘Bernard A. Sorhaindo Memorial Lecture’, on Thursday, August 11, 2016, commencing at 7:00 pm, at the Fort Young Hotel Conference Room.
Deputy Principal of UWI Open Campus, Professor Julie Meeks, will present the Lecture on the topic: “Child’s Rights and Wrongs: Sharing with Dominica.” Her presentation will highlight that research in many Caribbean countries has revealed, that exposure to violence and abuse, as well as living in poverty, are some of the main areas for concern for the region’s children, while exploring Dominica’s case, and its response to the needs of its children. Free and open to the public, this lecture series is named after Dr. Bernard A Sorhaindo; Dominica’s first graduate of The UWI, and one of the country’s most celebrated medical doctors. Dr. Sorhaindo was an advocate for the availability of proper health care facilities and personnel, for the purpose of improving the quality of life of Dominicans.
