Work is set to begin on the Yorke Valley Bridge, located in the Layou Valley.
According to a release from the Ministry of Public Works and Ports, Construction of the new Yorke Valley Bridge, which is estimated in excess of EC$11 million, is being made possible through grant funding from the People’s Republic of China. The Government of the People’s Republic of China made the commitment to provide funds to reconstruct the bridge after it was severely damaged following the collapse of the Mattieu Dam in July, 2011. The project will be executed in two phases; the demolition of the existing one-lane bridge and construction of a two-lane bridge. The demolition portion of the works will take place between September 25 and 29, 2016, however the road will be closed from September 21, 2016. The project is expected to last for one year therefore during this period the Ministry of Public Works and Ports advises motorists travelling east of Yorke Valley to use the Jimmit/Warner Road or the Canefield/Pond Casse Road.
