A government minister is calling on Dominicans, especially those in the Soufriere constituency to not lose focus on the task ahead. Member of Parliament for the Cottage Constituency, Reginald Austrie, says the people of the Soufriere Constituency cannot be distracted by anything else that is going on. Austrie was specifically referring to the Panama Papers leak which has implicated several high ranking Dominicans. The Panama Papers is the largest ever release of secret offshore companies and the people behind them. The 11million documents were leaked from a Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca; they show how the company has helped clients launder money, dodge sanctions, and evade tax and show the countless ways in which the rich can exploit secretive offshore tax regimes. Austrie says while he is not downplaying the importance of the papers, the June 7 by-election is Soufriere is of greater importance. He says the focus now should be on the Dominica Labour Party emerging victorious once again in that constituency. Austrie applauded the residents of the Soufriere Constituency who he says are putting every effort into ensuring the seat remains with the DLP administration.
