In the aftermath of a massive fire which occurred on December 26, 2016, which destroyed 19 family dwellings, and affected over 60 residents in community of Silver Lake, Chicago based Criminologist and Sociologist, Dr. Peter K B St Jean decided to conduct ‘Better Me, Better You’ BMBY Crisis Recovery Sessions with Silver Lake youths and families.
Organizers of the program are seeking donations from individuals and organizations to help offset costs associated with materials for the session activities, refreshments for participants, photo copying of pre-tests, posts tests, and evaluations, module activities, and for costs associated with unpredicted needs. According to a release, the program is a specialized 20-hour crisis recovery module called ‘Silver Lining’, to be implemented from 9th to 13th January 2017. It will include a family fun day on January 14, and Sessions will be held at the Bath Estate Community Center, and on the grounds of Silver Lake. St Jean says these activities are intended to build on some of what participants have learned in the BMBY module with refresher exercises, and particular exercises to build their mental, emotional, and behavioural intelligence and effectiveness, to better overcome the inevitable recovery difficulties that they are currently facing, and may encounter in the future. He says such assistance is intended to complement the speedy governmental and other responses, to rebuild the physical infrastructure, and the lives of the residents.
