Vice President of Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches, Reverend Arlington Wilson, admits that the church failed to provide proper guidelines with respect to deviant sexual behaviour.
Wilson and several other religious leaders met with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on Wednesday March 9, 2016, to discuss and get feedback on social ills & deviant behaviour affecting Dominicans. Wilson suggests a unified front is needed in the fight against societal ills, and deviant sexual behaviour in particular. He said “There is need, right now for us to put aside our religious views and come together to deal with the issues. What we discussed in the meeting is that the church has failed in that area and I believe that”. Wilson added “While we cannot regulate the conduct of the people, we felt that there should be programs that would assist our young people, because the deviant behaviours are not only in society, but they are also in the church, and for certain reasons, the information is not brought out because of church settings.” He said, in the course of the meeting, “We spoke about pornography, the role of the media and how they handle these situations, and we also spoke about having a family court. We realize that a lot of children grow up without parental figures and, therefore, we saw the need to go to the schools and the workplaces, to see how we can help the children in their upbringing”.
