The Dominica Labour Party has confirmed that 36 year old Denise Charles of Pointe Michel will be their candidate in the June 7th by-election in the Soufriere constituency.
Charles, an Accountant by profession, was elected by her peers at a special meeting of the Soufriere DLP Constituency Association last evening. According to a DLP release, Charles, who has served with distinction as chairperson of the Association in recent years, is a longstanding member of the DLP and a frontline speaker on platforms of Former Soufriere MPs Ian Pinard and Sam Martin. Charles will be launched on May 14th 2016 at a DLP rally in Pointe Michel. This launch kickstarts the party's campaign which is being spearheaded by PM Roosevelt Skerrit. Meanwhile the UWP has confirmed that it is ready for the upcoming by-election. They have named Higgs Adams as they candidate. Adams contested that seat for the UWP in the 2014 general election, he was defeated by Ian Pinard 1,326 votes to 822.
