DFC expect massive turnout for World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) as worldwide promotions kick in9/12/2016 DFC expect massive turnout for the 2016 edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), as worldwide promotions get into gear. That is the word which came out the Dominica Festival Committee’s promotions team, during a press conference on Thursday, September 8, 2016.
Leroy ‘Wadix’ Charles, said, “Since the advent of the World Creole Music Festival, the world has taken an interest in Dominica. We can now invite the entire world to come to us in one space, where we can rub shoulders with Jamaicans, Grenadians, Barbadians, Antiguans and other people from all over”. Charles continued, “They will be coming in multitudes; I can guarantee you that; never before in our nineteen years of history, has the feedback from the French been so overwhelming. Already, two months before the festival, bookings are going out of hand, in Martinique and Guadeloupe. In the first time in our history, we have provided them with one hundred billboards each, in Martinique and Guadeloupe”. Charles suggests that Dominica should seize this opportunity to make a statement to the world. He said, “We in Dominica, if we want to make a statement to the world that Dominica is ready to make a full recovery, this is one of the opportunities, because this is our independence season”. Meanwhile, DFC’s Consultant Val Cuffy added that this year’s World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) promises to be filled beyond capacity. He Cuffy said the promised line up, consisting of stars such as African pop sensation Akon and Morgan Heritage, is the reason behind such a big turnout. The lineup is a key component, and the response to it has triggered immense interest in Dominica”. Meanwhile, DFC’s Media Marketing Coordinator, Daphne Vidal, said a number of media houses from around the world have already indicated their interest in coming to Dominica to cover the festival. She said, this year, we have confirmed media personnel from Billboard Magazine who will be coming to Dominica to cover the festival. We also have a Canadian group coming in for the first time. In the French West Indies, we have our usual partners from Guadeloupe and Martinique. We also have partners in Antigua and St. Martin, who are airing our ads.
