The Dominica Freedom Party has extended deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Franklyn Baron.
The party described Baron as a successful visionary and an astute politician who embraced the struggles of life at an early age. Mr. Baron served as Dominica’s Non Resident High Commissioner to London, Ambassador to the United Nations in New York, the United States of America and the OAS as well as on a number of statutory Boards and Commissions during the reign of the Dominica Freedom Party administration. "The person Franklyn Andrew Baron who has been widely spoken about in Dominica for his contribution to governance, politics and business will not be forgotten" officials said in a statement. Meanwhile, Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has announced that Baron will receive a State Funeral. “By virtue of the fact that he served as Chief Minister of Dominica, he will be accorded the honour of a ‘State Funeral’ by the government of Dominica,” Skerrit, said on Monday. He noted that an appropriate announcement will be made by the Office of the Prime Minister in respect to a “National Day of Mourning” and “other arrangements for his burial.” “Certainly he made a contribution to our country over an extended period of time...He was one of the Dominicans who remained in Dominica to work for the well-being of our country and he was a major player in the private sector also” he said.
