Dominica’s Carnival celebrations will for about six weeks, and will include calypso competitions and pageants among other events, and will climax with two days of street jump up on 27th and 28th February 2017. Vidal reported that “the DDA is undertaking destination and carnival marketing promotions in St. Maarten and Antigua. A team in St. Maarten had meetings with WINAIR and other potential sponsors. They did interviews on some of the top radio stations in St. Maarten, including PJD2 and SOS Radio, which is a popular radio on the French side”. She said DDA is partnering with WINAIR, and discussions have been “fruitful”. She added that “WINAIR will be launching Carnival promotions in partnership with DDA, so we are asking patrons in St. Maarten to look out for those promotions, and people in Dominica who know people in St Maarten, should inform them of these promotions which are upcoming with WINAIR”. Vidal added that DDA will inform the public of the promotions available for Carival, as soon as the partnership details are finalized. Meanwhile, DDA has also partnered with the Windward Island Volcanoes cricket team to promote carnival 2017, and made a presentation during the Windward Volcanoes Cricket Match against the T&T Red Force in Antigua yesterday 26th January. The match was aired live on ESPN. Vidal said “the presentation included Dominican Artiste ‘Mr Benji’ of Triple Kay International, alongside a sample of the Real Mas and Sensay costumes”.
