How should political leadership be defined? There are various issues with the subject. Some contend that it has to do with having the ability to properly implement a vision. Others, though, contend that it involves having the courage to speak out for what you believe in. The political leader of the Dominica Freedom Party, Bernard Hurtault, is of the opinion that the leadership in the Dominican society needs to have a clear perspective in order to embody a vision of openness and honesty that will motivate the Dominican people.
 
He emphasizes that outstanding leaders must be self-conscious and aware of their strengths and weaknesses. They must also be willing to take risks and have a strong sense of justice. They act with morality, sincerity, and compassion in whatever they do, setting an example for others to follow.

​Political leaders must have a comprehensive awareness of the world, especially its people. Morality and skill are essential components of effective political leadership. Hurtault continues by saying that in order to embody and fulfill for the people all the attributes we speak of, this leader must be able to harness the potential of such a well-developed team. He says excellent leadership is frequently defined by the deeds of great leaders, and that we need leaders who are inspiring, intellectual, and capable of foreseeing the needs of Dominicans.
