The Dominican Government says it is currently filling a 40ft container to Haiti to send to La Caye Haiti sometime next week. Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, says this is possible following the overwhelming response from the Dominican public after his appeal to business owners to organize a Haiti relief effort. Speaking with press on Friday, following a Haiti/Bahamas fact finding mission this week, he further appealed to Dominica particularly religious leaders to continue to assist Haiti in this time of need. The Dominican Government has already committed US$100,000 to the Government of Haiti.
Meanwhile, Mr. Skerrit says CARICOM is taking steps to get Haiti back into agriculture to ensure food security for the nation. According to PM Skerrit, this is a major priority for the country now, given that the areas most affected were agriculture-dependent communities.
