Meanwhile, Dominica’s Health Minister now says government allocated $300,000 for design of a new hospital for Marigot. Minister Kenneth Darroux says the DLP government is committed to building a new hospital in Marigot. Government has been making similar statements for some time now. Darroux says the monies for this design, have been allocated for the 2016/2017 fiscal year.
Dr Darroux was a guest on a talk show of a private local radio station yesterday Wednesday. He said, “We’ve dedicated $300,000 or so in this financial year, to begin the issue of the design, etc for the Marigot Hospital. I really want to assure the Marigot community.” Darroux also said he does not want to turn the problems at the Marigot Hospital into a political issue. “I said I did not want to get caught up in the whole political twist…of course if other people choose to put a political spin or twist to that, that is their choice,” he said. “The government of Dominica is committed to building a new hospital at Marigot and we are going to pursue it in this financial year. As I said monies have been allocated for the designs etc.” The hospital was recently shut down due to an infestation of mold and fungus. It was previously first shut down in 2014 because of a severe termite infestation. The facility has been temporarily relocated, since the latest shutdown.
