Dominica and Japan have signed diplomatic notes geared at facilitating the transfer of US $1.62 million in grant aid to Dominica. The signing took place Friday morning between the Minister Councillor of the Embassy of Japan Masatoshi Sato, and Foreign Affairs Minister Francine Baron. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Careen Prevost, says the US$1.62 million is for the provision of Disaster reduction equipment, which will assist in mitigating future disasters. Foreign Affairs Minister Francine Baron says this equipment will be a valuable contribution towards the goal of rebuilding Dominica even better post ‘Erika’. Meanwhile Minister Councillor of the Embassy of Japan, Masatoshi Sato says this grant-aid program will reduce disaster damages, and will also support Dominica in adapting to climate change.
