According to College Secretary Kernita Delsol, the Dominica State College is offering short 8-week empowerment courses from 8th February 2017.
Ms Delsol says the short courses have a two-fold purpose. “One goal is to provide introductory training, skillsets and knowledge in a specific discipline, but we also hope to provide prospective participants, curious about furthering their studies, a content base that would inspire them to engage in continuous learning”. Delsol added, our courses have been designed in collaboration with qualified experienced individuals from the respective industries, tailored to suit the needs of our local society. The courses fall under three genres: (i) Business, for those who may be curious about a particular sector such as banking, insurance, accounting, entrepreneurship, tourism and management. (ii) Civic Mindedness, for those concerned with factors that directly impact Dominica such as Public Health, Customer Service, and Disaster Management (iii) Personal Development, for those involved in organizing events, and as such, need to be familiar with the Protocols required by our constitution, and or international Etiquette standards; our Do-It-Yourself individuals wanting to cut costs, and independently solve simple automobile and plumbing problems. Delsol advises that each course is designed to be interactive, and filled with practical activities and simulation exercises where applicable. The course facilitators, from within and without DSC, are all familiar with the classroom, and will ensure a quality educational experience.
