The Dominica Vulnerability Reduction Project has made a large donation of ICT equipment to Government departments in the interest of disaster resilience and mitigation.
The Dominica Vulnerability Reduction Project was derived from Dominica's Low-Carbon Climate-Resilient Strategy and was officially launched in October 2014 and is being implemented by the Ministry of Health and Environment. According to a release, the objective of this project is to reduce Dominica’s vulnerability to natural hazards and climate change through investment in resilient infrastructure and improve hazard data collection and monitoring systems. Minister for Environment, Hon. Kenneth Darroux says ICT plays an important role in climate resilience. He spoke of data collection and management systems, early warning systems and spatial data management to improve decision-making in the context of disaster risk reduction. Several Government departments, including physical planning , lands and survey and ministry of public works technical services will benefit from the ICT equipment which he revealed is worth $653,000. The package comprises specialized computer equipment hardware and rugged computer devices for field data collection and to manage network services.
