Dominica will close out the first phase of the Juvenile Justice Reform Project on Friday 10th June, 2016. The Closeout Ceremony will bring together representatives of USAID, the OECS, Government and stakeholders. Addresses will come from Government officials and also officials of the OECS/USAID. This Ceremony will take place (on Friday June 10th) upstairs the Social Centre building on Turkey lane and will begin at 1:30 pm. Following the Ceremony, the OECS and USAID officials will visit the work in progress at the Operation Youth Quake.
The reform of the juvenile justice systems in the OECS territories sought to achieve Legal reform, capacity building in the administration of the system, system modernization, and improving civil society linkages & other supporting structures, in the delivery of children & youth services. The OECS/USAID Juvenile Justice Reform Project implemented through the Ministry of Social Services, Family and Gender Affairs has supported Dominica by funding several projects in the areas of capacity building for juvenile justice providers through various training initiatives; technical support for Legislative Reform; personal development and skills training for youth; Small projects grants to the Welfare Division, CHANCES & the Social Centre, under its ‘From Offending to Achieving’ Program (FOTA). The single largest local financial support has been made for the re-roofing of the building housing youth of Operation Youth Quake costing EC$173,103.11. This roofing Project is nearing completion.
