Dominica/Cuba sign Technical Cooperation Agreement for engagement of four (4) Cuban Engineers12/20/2016 A Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed today, Monday December 19, 2016 between the Governments of Dominica and the Republic of Cuba, for the local engagement of four (4) engineers.
This initiative comes on the heels of invaluable technical assistance in the form of engineers from the Government of the Republic of Cuba, following damage caused to Dominica by Tropical Storm Erika in 2015. Reportedly, in light of the human resource constraints of the Ministry of Public Works & Ports, the Government of Dominica welcomes this new program. The four Cuban engineers are said to have extensive experience in the design of structures and roads, and are expected to commence work in January 2017, for a period of one year. The execution of this agreement, will reportedly assist the Government of Dominica, in the implementation of its Public Sector Investment Programme, with particular emphasis on the assessment of vulnerable sites, as well as in the preparation of civil works in various communities. Signing of the Agreement between Governments of Dominica and Cuba represents, is expected to result in further deepening of friendship between the two countries, and strengthening of technical cooperation. Minister for Public Works & Ports, Hon Miriam Blanchard signed on behalf of the Government of Dominica. Dominica and Cuba formally established diplomatic relations way back in 1996, when a UWP Administration was in office.
