Dominican born Canadian Justice Dr. Irving Andre announces date for Disbursements of Scholarships11/8/2016 Dominican born Canadian Justice Dr. Irving Andre, has announced the date for Disbursements of more Scholarships to Dominican students.
Dr Andre said the Scholarship Disbursement Ceremony, to be held on behalf of the Canada-Dominica Scholarship Foundation (CANDO), will take place at the UWI Open Campus Auditorium on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. This year, 18 Dominican students who are in need, will be awarded $500 each. The CANDO Foundation was established in 2011, with the aim of assisting disadvantaged young people, as a means of helping them to realize their academic goals. CANDO’s membership consists of Dominicans residing in Ontario, Canada, and other persons who have some association with the island and /or its citizens. The organization has raised funds through personal donations, and since 2011, has given fifteen scholarships to deserving Canadian students of Dominican ancestry. In 2015, the organization gave scholarships to fifteen Dominican students who were affected in some way by tropical storm, Erika. These students came from Delices, Petit Savanne, Coulibistrie, Salisbury & Yam Piece. Each received a sum in the amount of $500.
