Dominican-born US-based attorney examines how Donald Trump’s US presidency may affect Dominica11/16/2016 Dominican-born, US-based attorney Gabriel Christian, has given his views as to how Donald Trump’s US presidency may affect Dominica and the wider Caribbean. Dr. Christian also believes that the policies and ideas Trump espoused during his campaign require in-depth revision.
He said “Unless he takes a 180 degree turn away from the policies he promoted during his campaign, it will be a catastrophe for America and the World.” Dr. Christian added that decisions taken by Mr. Trump as President, may negatively affect many students and other Dominicans who are living in the US; including businesses established in the US by Dominicans, as well as businesses in Dominica that have been established by US citizens. Christian added, “The more disposable income Dominicans have in the United states, is the more they can invest in Dominica or repatriate to help their families in Dominica. If there is a conflict in the United States because of racial violence or any other such issue, the US economy will suffer, and so will all those within it, and that will affect remittances to Dominica.” Christian stressed that the Dominican people must focus on the development of their own country in different sectors of society, using the best resources available. He said “Every disappointment is a blessing. This is a time for us to work harder, smarter and be more united”.
