This invitation has come from the Ministry of Social Services, Family, and Gender Affairs, as Dominica joins the International Community, in recognizing International Day to Reject Violence Against Women and Girls, tomorrow Friday.
Every year, the United Nations observes 16 days of Activism to highlight the international campaign to end violence against women and girls. This year, International Day to Reject Violence Against Women and Girls is celebrated under the UN Women Theme, “Orange the World: Raise Money to End Violence Against Women and Girls.” A press release issued on Thursday 24th November 2016 stated “We also invite the public to join the social media campaign by sharing photos, messages, and videos showing how you “Orange the World” using the hashtags #orangetheworld #16days #endviolence,”. Over the 16 days from 25th November to 10th December 2016, several agencies around the world will partner with the UN in the drive to protect the human rights of women & girls to live free from violence. This year, World Aids Day, International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities and Human Rights Day, will also be observed during this period.
