Prominent Dominican and Agriculture expert, Dr. Clayton Shillingford, is calling on Finance Minister, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, to make a public statement to clarify the situation, as Dominica becomes embroiled in the Panama Papers Scandal. The Panama Papers is the largest ever release of secret offshore companies and the people behind them. The 11-million documents were leaked from a Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonseca, and show how the company has helped clients launder money, dodge sanctions and evade tax. Since being released, a number of high ranking officials here have been mentioned in connection with the Panama Papers. Dr. Shillingford says Mr Skerrit should explain to these “intricacies” to Dominicans, as the country appears to be involved in some way or other. Meanwhile, Dr. Shillingford supports calls for an investigation to be launched into the matter by local police.
