Dr Francis Severin to Present at 11th Annual Dame Eugenia Charles Memorial Lecture tomorrow11/30/2016 Photo Credit: UWI Open Campus Dominica Facebook Page The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Dominica will host the 11th Annual Dame Eugenia Charles Memorial Lecture, in collaboration with the Fort Young Hotel and the Charles Foundation on Thursday December 1, 2016 at 7:00 pm, at the Fort Young Hotel Conference Room.
This year’s presenter, Dr. Francis O Severin, will speak on the topic: "Dem belly full, but we hungry: Insights into autocratic rule.” Dr. Severin is the Director of Open Campus Country Sites at the UWI Open Campus. Through this topic, Dr. Severin will draw upon the literature which addresses the "omnipresent" political chasms in former colonial / post-independent societies. He will isolate some of the salient attributes of autocratic rulers, seeking to clarify their deleterious effects on people's ability to emerge as equal participants in societies. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will provide an opportunity, for guests to listen to the speaker present for about 40 minutes. Following the presentation, guests will be able to interact, and generate meaningful discussions about the influence of the topic on the Caribbean region.
