There were also several shooting incidents, and horrific crimes. 2017 is showing signs of the trend set in 2016, with the brutal killing of a young lady in Loubiere, and discovery of a decomposing body of a man who went missing on 3rd January.
A shooting early on the morning of Saturday 7th January 2017 has left one man from the community of Pointe Michel nursing serious gunshot wounds. He was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) as a consequence. The man was reportedly shot three times at close range by his attacker, with whom he allegedly had a prior argument at a bar in Pointe Michel. Police are said to be investigating the matter, and are reportedly searching for the shooting suspect. Many are beginning to speculate that there are too many guns in circulation, and in the hands of the wrong people, and that there is too much tension among persons in the communities. It appears that law enforcement officials have their work cut out for them in 2017, and will clearly have to develop an appropriate proactive approach to prevent any further escalation in such crimes in Dominica in 2017.
