Financial Information Month has been observed in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) since 2002, through the collaborative efforts of the ECCB, ECCU member governments, financial and academic institutions, the media, other private and public sector institutions, and community based groups. Countries that participated in the video conference include Dominica, St. Kitts & Nevis, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Lucia, Anguilla, Grenada, St. Vincent & the Grenadines & Montserrat. The theme for Financial Information Month is ‘Create, Optimize, Pursue and Embrace Opportunities’. Agency Manager of Sagicor Life, Brendon Hillaire, encouraged all concerned to use the opportunities presented to advance towards fulfilling their dreams, start new ideas, and not allow anyone to discourage them. He said “Be ahead of the curve, don’t follow what everyone else is doing, do something different, every invention that we use now, used to be a new idea, something against the norm that somebody wasn’t afraid to try”. Hillaire also advised not to look back on previous accomplishments, but to use them as stepping stones to keep going further. Loans supervisor of the Grenada Union Teachers Credit Union, Matonia Munroe told the audience to seek to create opportunities, even when it appears that none are present. He said “Take the initiative, don’t wait for the opportunity to come to you, create it and build on it”. Meanwhile, Director of the Nevis Department of Youth and Sports, Zahnela Claxton advised all stakeholders to optimize on any opportunity presented, or any situation, and use their skills to make the most of available opportunities.
