Economist takes issue with PM Skerrit calling citizens’ criticism of CBI program ‘Economic Terrorism’

​Economist Dr. Thompson Fontaine says he finds certain comments made by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit as a “Little strange.” The former IMF economist takes issue with Prime Minister Skerrit calling citizens’ criticism of CBI program ‘Economic Terrorism’
 
Mr. Skerrit stated in a press conference held last week, that “Patriotic Dominicans need to understand that constant attack on the CBI Program is tantamount to economic terrorism on the part of its perpetrators.”
 
He continued, “Banana levels will not rebuild Dominica, tourism earnings alone will not rebuild Dominica in the short or medium term, Payroll and other direct taxes will not rebuild Dominica now or ever.” The Prime Minister announced that more than 90% of the island’s capital project this year is being funded directly from, and through, the CBI Program.
 
Dr. Fontaine had expressed the view that bringing artistes to Dubai in order to persuade investors to invest into Dominica, was a bit of a stretch. Here is Dr. Fontaine with more:
