Education Ministry points to student literacy development as a priority area in the education system1/25/2016 Meantime, the Ministry of Education says it has recognized student literacy development as a national priority area within the education system. Education Minister Petter St Jean made that pronouncement at the swearing-in ceremony, for the 6 new Peace Corps volunteers to Dominica last Wednesday. The volunteers will be assigned to the Castle Bruce Primary school, the Kelleb Laurent Primary school, the Thibaud Primary School, the Goodwill secondary school, the St John’s Primary school and the Salisbury Primary school. At these schools the volunteers will work alongside teachers to help improve the literacy levels of students in Grades 1 to 3. And St Jean says though progress has been made in students’ literacy over the years, there are still areas where more focus is required. Meanwhile St Jean says while measures are being put in place to address this issue, all resources are needed to achieve set goals. Education Minister Petter St Jean
