Education Ministry still grappling with gender equity and sensitization within the education system9/5/2016 The Ministry of Education says it is still grappling with the issue of gender equity and sensitization within the education system. Student assessment results when differentiated by gender, show more females receive passing grades than males. The ministry is also battling what it describes as the lack of interest of males in the teaching profession. And according to Assistant Chief Education Officer Dr Jeffrey Blaize, one of the major factors affecting the female to male teacher ratio, is more females are graduating successfully from the school system. Dr Blaize says the ministry has embarked on a number of areas to attract males into the teaching profession. Dr Blaize says the ministry will be redoubling its efforts to get males interested in the teaching profession. She says this issue is not only Dominican based, but is a global phenomenon.
