An educational talk entitled, “Synopsis of the Public Service General Orders” forms part of activities for Public Service Day 2016. The Talk is carded for Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the University of the West Indies Open Campus, and will be presented by Mrs. Tameka Hyacinth Burton, Solicitor General, and Mrs. Jennifer Astaphan, former Chief Personnel Officer.
The presenters will examine the revised General Orders of July 1995 in the context of the Public Service Act Chap. 23:01, and will address the specific and select aspects of the General Orders such as retirement, office hours, absence from state, leave and passage eligibility. The presentation will also speak to relevance & language of General Orders, in the context of its applicability to modern day Human Resource Management, & changes in reform & management of the public service. Participants will also be engaged in discussion on Part VI of the Public Service Act which sets out the requirements for Regulation prescribing administrative orders, terms and conditions of employment in the Public Service and among others the duties and conduct of public officers. Public Service Day will be celebrated on Friday, December 2, 2016 with an Awards and Recognition Ceremony. The theme for this year’s observance is “Embracing the Challenge: Rethink, Rebuild, and Transform.”
