Today, officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and JICA carried out an inspection and walk through of two MEGA FISH AGGREGATING DEVICES (MEGAFADS) at the Woodbridge Bay Port Facility in Fond Cole. In November 2015, the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica and Government of Japan signed a Grant Aid Bilateral Agreement to the sum of approximately E$3,000,000 (Three million dollars) for the improvement of the refrigeration equipment at Roseau and Marigot Fisheries landing facilities and fishing technology through FADs. The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries signed a contractual agreement with NBK Corporation of Japan after their successful tender for implementation of the project. Fisheries Officer, Julian Defoe, says the last phase of the project, deployment of two mega sub-surface FADS, is currently being undertaken. Defoe highlights the benefits of this project for fisherfolk here. Construction and deployment of these FADs is expected to be completed by October 25.
