Finally, the ground breaking ceremony for the long anticipated new Hospital at the site of the PMH8/8/2016 After more than five years of promising, planning and reconsideration by the ministry of health and its counterparts, today marks the ground breaking ceremony of what government describes as a new state-of-the-art hospital, on the site of the current Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).
The ceremony for the projected US$40-million China-funded project is expected to take place at the Lindo Park in Goodwill from 4:00 pm. It is one of the four-pillar projects that formed part of an MOU, between the Governments of Dominica and China, when the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2004. However, talks of constructing a new hospital in Dominica dates back to 2010, followed by years of several promises of ground breakings, and start-ups, until today. Health Minister Kenneth Darroux had stated recently, that construction of the new hospital had “essentially started.” Down to address the ceremony are Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Health Minister Dr. Kenneth Darroux, Chinese Ambassador from the People’s Republic of China to the Commonwealth of Dominica, Li Jiangning, and Xie Gaohong, Manager of the Overseas Department of Hunan Construction Engineering Group. Meanwhile, DLP Attorney Anthony Astaphan expressed optimism about the new hospital, stating that it deserves all the fanfare and celebration, as the facility will raise the level of National Pride in the country.
