Foreign Affairs Minister, Francine Baron, has called for more urgent and wide ranging action in the fight against climate change to ensure the survival of Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Baron made the call as she addressed the UN General Assembly's seventy-first session at the weekend. She says small island states continue to suffer the disproportionate burdens and impacts of climate change which she says severely undermines efforts at sustainable development. As such the Minister continued the call for the collaboration in the establishment of an international natural disaster risk. While Baron described the Caribbean Risk Fund, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Disaster Recovery Facilities as “good starting points” she says the funding levels remain vastly insufficient. Meanwhile she says Dominica's Government is taking steps to improve its ability to respond to post disaster situations.
