Former Agriculture Minister, Atherton Martin has responded to statements made by Housing Minister Reginald Austrie, accusing him of attacking young Penville farmers, because he expressed concern about the manner in which funds were disbursed to that young farmers group. Austrie, speaking on Q95's Hot seat Thursday, said the funds were made available under the Petrocaribe social program, and as such did not need parliamentary approval to spend it. Martin in response said nonetheless a policy must still be established to guide the distribution of public funds. Meanwhile, Martin dispelled statements made by Minister Austrie claiming that he abandoned the position of agriculture minister over the hunting of whales.
Referring to those comments as 'childish', Martin said he left after realizing the deterioration that was taking place in the integrity of the cabinet.
