Four (4) students are heading to secondary school with scholarships from First Domestic Insurance Company Ltd (FDIC). The company provides assistance to at least ten scholars, many of whom are children of their policy holders, and one who is the child of an FDIC employee. Metin Enrico Bruman, Meah Purity Andrew, Bernice Lawrence, and the daughter of FDIC employee, Trisha Alexander, are this year’s recipients.
Operations Manager at FDIC, Nadia Laville-Frank says the company places value on education, and gives priority to its customers. During a ceremony on Wednesday, she said “Our first responsibility is to our customers. We believe in the benefits of a sound education, for the development of the youth, and for Dominica’s future.” Laville-Frank advised the students to be diligent and ambitious, and to make their supporters proud. She added, “Everything can be achieved through commitment and determination. I’d like to encourage you to work hard, pay attention to your studies, make us proud, and make your parents proud. The world is yours, and you can choose where you go, but please choose wisely.” She further stated that FDIC scholars are chosen not only for their academic achievements, but for their character and level of need. Judy Valerie, mother of scholarship recipient, Metin Brumant, expressed her gratitude to FDIC for affording her son such an opportunity. She said “I am very excited. I was overwhelmed when I got the call, because he missed the bursary by one point, and this is a great opportunity for him. Thank you very much for that investment.” The new recipients will join current scholarship holders Coann Lockhart, Jeanelle Jno Baptiste, Celia Xavier, Orlannice St. Rose, and Neima Hector. The FDIC scholarship program has been in existence for more than 16 years, and has provided assistance to forty (40) students.
