Government announces plans for Constructing an Indoor Sports Facility to commence early in 201711/23/2016 A proposed Indoor Sports Facility may soon become a reality here, as Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says construction on such a facility will commence in the first half of 2017. He made these comments at a recent press briefing. Mr. Skerrit says US$5M has been set aside for construction of the facility, and that he has given the Sports Ministry the mandate to commence construction, He says facility will advance sports in Dominica. The Government announced in May 2014, that it had engaged a Florida firm to construct the facility which will cater for basketball, volleyball and netball games, with a seating capacity of 3,000.
Construction of the facility was expected to commence in 2015, however, PM Skerrit says the passage of TS Erika in August 2015 caused a delay in the implementation, as resources had to be channelled to areas of greater priority
