Government now says lightning of playing fields is back on track after the passage of TS Erika on 27th August 2015, and has earmarked $750,000 for lighting up 5 such playing fields. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Sports, Ms. Mandra Fagan told media on Friday, that solar-powered high-intensity sports LED lights outfitted with battery storage and solar panels will be installed at five playing fields here within the next four months. The Communities that will benefit from the initiative are: Vieille Case, Thibaud, Grand Bay, La Plaine, and Jolly John. Meanwhile, Fagan says through the upgrading of playing fields, it is their hope that it will enhance the calibre of athletes and help reduce the threat of CNCD's on island. This project is being funded by the Dominica National Lotteries Commission to the tune of $750,000. An agreement was signed between the DNL and Solaris Energy Company on Friday.
