Government planning to allocate funds for appointment of a Dominica Consul General in Canada
Funds will reportedly be allocated in the next fiscal year to finance the appointment and operations of a Dominica Consul General in Canada.
This was recently revealed by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
The role of a Consul General is to protect the interest of his or her country's citizens, who live in an overseas country in which he or she is stationed.
That appointee directs the consulate, a diplomatic mission that provides a number of services and resources to citizens of the home country.
Mr Skerrit noted that cost is among the challenges of having these persons stationed abroad. But he is giving the assurance that funds will be made available in the 2017/2018 national budget.
