The southern community was severely affected during the passage of Tropical Storm Erika in August 2015, and residents were evacuated after the village was declared a special disaster area. Residents are currently being housed in the Grandbay area, the village where the first 50 Petro Casas provided by the People’s Republic of Venezuela are being constructed for their resettlement. Dr Kenneth Darroux is the Parliamentary Representative for the Petite Savanne Constituency. He says the government is also in the process of putting all measures in place before purchasing land in the Bellevue Chopin area that has been selected for the resettlement of the Petite Savanne people.
