Guyana Parliament passes an Anti-Terrorism Law providing for death penalty for anyone guilty of terrorism
An Anti-Terrorism and Terrorists Related Activities Bill, which makes provision for the death penalty for anyone found guilty of an act of terrorism, has been passed in the National Assembly.
The legislation which criminalizes terrorism and related activities, provides for the detection, prevention, prosecution, conviction and punishment of terrorism and terrorist related activities got the Parliament’s approval on Old Year’s Eve, after a lengthy and heated debate.
Thirty-one members of the government voted in favour of the bill while 29 Opposition members voted against.
