A statement to that effect was made by Health Minister, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, as he announced that over 231 persons visited the Emergency Room at the Princess Margaret Hospital with drug related illnesses.
These illnesses are said to have ranged from alcohol induced psychosis, to marijuana intoxication.
Dr. Darroux made the announcement as Dominica joins the rest of the world in observing Drug Awareness month this January under the theme, 'Let’s Develop Our Lives - Our Communities- Our Identities, Without Drugs'.
Dr. Darroux says by working together, there is much that can be done to reduce the influence and scourge of drug abuse here.
He says greater focus must be placed on building more meaningful and positive lives.
