Photo Credit: Los Angeles Times Husband of Former Miss Dominica , Morrad Ghonim, has been found guilty in the United States for the murder of his first wife more than two decades ago.
Ghonim, was found guilty of first-degree murder on November 21st 2016 in California. Ghonim was charged with the 1992 murder of his first wife in the Los Angeles area. According to a report on the Los Angeles Times, the jury which deliberated for nearly a week reached a verdict on Monday. He now faces life in prison without the possibility of parole at his sentencing scheduled for December 19, 2016. In 2015, Ghonim was deported from Antigua, where he operated a beauty store, two months after 42 year old Leon Martinez was convicted by a US jury as being the hit man in the murder. Martinez said he and Ghonim had met through mutual acquaintance in 1992. According to the report on the Los Angeles Times "Martinez said, Ghonim asked if he knew anybody who would kill for money. Martinez had recently traded drugs for a .22-caliber revolver, so he said he would do it. They didn’t get into many details, Martinez said, but Ghonim told him that he wanted it to look like a robbery. They settled on a price: $20,000". “He just wanted her dead,” Martinez said. Ghonim tied the knot with Dominican Miss Dominica 2012 Nadiro Lando in 2014.
