IICA and MOA to host workshop on Building Resilience in Agricultural strategies in Dominica10/3/2016 The Inter American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is hosting a 2 1/2 -day Workshop on Building Resilience in Agricultural strategies in Dominica.
The workshop carded for October 4th- 6th 2016 is geared at strenghtening the technical and methodological capacities of relevant stakeholders in Dominica for integrating climate change adaptation into agricultural sector development and strategies. According to a release, to date, climate change has not been an integral part of the program of the Ministry of Agriculture and as such not many of its officers have been exposed to CC methodologies. It says increased awareness, knowledge, capacity and action are needed to stimulate the transformation of the agricultural sector to one that is more climate smart, resilient and sustainable, and that can continue to generate incomes for farmers as well as foreign exchange for the country. The workshop will take place at the Fort Young Hotel and will be facilitated by Ms Daniela Medina, Agriculture and Climate Change Specialist in IICA Headquarters. Following this workshop, Dominica is expected to take immediate steps to manage climate risk, Strengthen the technical and methodological capacities of relevant stakeholders in Dominica for integrating climate change adaptation into agricultural sector development and strategies and Introduce the concept of Climate proofing and climate finance options among policy makers.
