IICA to host 2nd workshop on strengthening capacity of agro-processors, farmers and exporters10/11/2016 The second in a series of two Workshops titled “Strengthening the capacity of agro-processors, farmers, exporters on processing and packaging technology specific to their operations: emphasis on roots and tubers” is scheduled to commence this week.
These workshops form part of the implementation phase of the Caribbean Action under the programme entitled Agriculture Policy Programme (APP) with focus on the Caribbean and the Pacific. According to a release, this workshop to be held at the DEXIA Packhouse in Roseau on October 12th and 13th 2016 from 8:30am will focus specifically on Postharvest treatment, handling and packaging of Dasheen and other roots and tubers. Its main objective will be “to improve the skills and knowledge of key stakeholders in conforming to the commodity standards for Dasheen and other Roots and Tubers”. Such stakeholders include DEXIA and DAPEX who have engaged farmers to produce Dasheen by contract to supply regional and international markets. The workshop will also offer training and hands on practical sessions to a total of 25 Agriculture Industry personnel (exporters, Packhouse operators and farmers) and will be facilitated by Total Quality Management and Postharvest professional Mr Lloyd Pascal along with experts from the Dominica Bureau of Standards (DBOS) and the Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA).
